Feed My Sheep Ministry

Through weekly Saturday breakfasts and monthly community dinners, volunteers provide free hot meals, fellowship, and practical support—including occasional free haircuts and bicycles—to anyone who walks through the doors.

Volunteers prepare and serve hot meals—and share conversation—with anyone who comes through the doors. What began as an outreach to the local homeless community has grown into a warm, welcoming gathering for neighbors of all kinds.

Our Monthly Community Dinners

Once a month, neighbors are welcomed for a hearty meal and fellowship. Held from 5 to 7 PM in the Parish Hall, these dinners feature home-cooked meals, fellowship, and, sometimes, free haircuts from volunteer barbers or even a free bike.

OUr History

Since late 2023, with the support, vision, and leadership of David Hoenig, St. Thomas has brought to life a vision of ministries rooted in the call of Christ to feed the hungry. The Parish has undertaken to provide hot meals on Saturday morning to anyone who is hungry. This was after a need was identified as other ministries providing free meals in the area only operate on weekdays. Coupled with this have been monthly community dinners. While many of those who are regular attenders of these meals are homeless, we regularly also see members of the local community as well as some parishioners who stop in for a meal.

The Feed My Sheep Ministry is fast becoming one of the key outreach ministries for the parish and has received funding from Thrift Shop outreach grants. David continues to do much of the organizational work, particularly for community dinners, which also provide an opportunity for free haircuts and to pick up clean clothes from the Thrift Shop.

Volunteers in this ministry can assist with cooking, particularly at breakfast, as well as helping to serve meals, welcome guests, build relationships with regulars, and clean up afterwards. It has also allowed us establish new relationships with other local organizations and deepen our existing ones. In particular, Open Doors has been the recipient of the majority of our leftover food which they then distribute to those in need.
